Beaches Near Palma Cruise Port: Cala Major, Ses Illetes and Can Pere Antoni
Quick answer: The closest beach to the cruise berths is Cala Major, a small sandy bay west of the port. It is 10–15 minutes from the port area by EMT bus 4 (€2, 2026) or a short taxi. Ses Illetes is further west, 20–30 minutes by bus 4 or taxi. If you also want the cathedral, Can Pere Antoni is the nearest sandy city beach, a free 15–20 minute walk east of it. For a 17:30 all-aboard, leave Cala Major by 15:45, or by 15:30 if your ship is on the Dique del Oeste.
Where the cruise ships dock
Palma is a docking port. There are no tenders. Which berth you get decides which beach makes sense.
- ·Estació Marítima terminals 1–4 (Paraires and Poniente quays): the inner terminals, about 3.5 km west of the cathedral. EMT bus 1 to the centre stops on Avinguda de Gabriel Roca, opposite Club de Mar.
- ·Dique del Oeste (terminals 5–6): the outer breakwater used by the largest ships, about 6 km from the cathedral, near Porto Pi. The nearest bus 1 stop is about 12 minutes' walk away. Most lines run a shuttle from here.
The port assigns berths and can change them shortly before arrival. Check your daily programme.
Both terminal areas sit west of the city, so the two western beaches, Cala Major and Ses Illetes, are closer to your ship than the cathedral is. Can Pere Antoni is on the far side of the city centre.
Cala Major
Getting there: EMT bus 4 to the Joan Miró stop, or a short taxi from the terminal rank. Time: 10–15 minutes from the port area. Cost: €2 by bus (2026). Taxis are metered on the regulated city tariff.
Cala Major is a small sandy bay west of the port. It is the closest beach to the cruise berths, which makes it the lower-risk choice for a swim. Its nearness to the ship is the main reason to pick it.
The Fundació Miró Mallorca is nearby, so a wet morning can become a museum visit without changing plans.
The guide we use does not give the exact bus 4 boarding stop for each terminal. If you are unsure where to catch it, a taxi from the rank outside the terminal is the simpler option for a short hop. Use official white taxis only.
Ses Illetes
Getting there: EMT bus 4 or a taxi. Time: 20–30 minutes from the port area. Cost: €2 by bus (2026).
Ses Illetes has clear water and small coves. In summer the sun loungers fill early, so go in the morning if you want one. It is further from the ship than Cala Major, and the extra ride time counts on the way back.
Can Pere Antoni
Getting there: take bus 1 or the ship's shuttle into the centre, then walk east from the cathedral along the seafront path. Time: about 20 minutes on bus 1 to the centre, then a 15–20 minute walk. Cost: the beach is free. Bus 1 is €2 each way (2026).
This is the nearest sandy city beach. It can be busy and has basic facilities. It suits a day that combines the cathedral with a swim, rather than a pure beach day. The cathedral opens to tourist visits at 10:00, so a morning swim and an afternoon in the cathedral does not work well. See the cathedral first, then walk to the beach.
Do not walk into the cathedral from the beach. Shoulders and knees must be covered, and beachwear is not allowed.
Paying for the bus
- ·€2 single (2026), cash or contactless bank card on board.
- ·One contactless card can pay for several passengers.
- ·Drivers give limited change and accept notes up to €10.
- ·Palma city council has approved raising the non-resident single fare to €3. It had not taken effect as of September 2026. Check before you travel.

When to head back
The guide's rule is to leave the cathedral area 1 hour 45 minutes before all-aboard, or 2 hours from the Dique del Oeste. That allows for a 10–15 minute wait for a bus, slow afternoon traffic on the Passeig Marítim, the walk to your gangway and a security queue. It puts you on board about an hour early.
There is no separate published rule for the beaches, so we build on that one and round towards caution:
- ·Cala Major: closer to the ship than the cathedral, but use the same margin.
- ·Ses Illetes: the ride is up to 10 minutes longer than bus 1 from the centre, so leave 15 minutes earlier.
- ·Can Pere Antoni: add the 15–20 minute walk back to the cathedral area.

If you are running late from Can Pere Antoni, walk back to the taxi rank by Parc de la Mar below the cathedral. A taxi is the fastest way back. Tell the driver your terminal (Estació Marítima or Dique del Oeste) and your ship's name. If you will miss all-aboard, call the port agent number on your daily programme.
To work out times for your own call, plan your day with your own all-aboard time.
Common mistakes
- ·Assuming a beach is a short walk from the ship. None of the three is. The cathedral alone is 3.5–6 km from the berths.
- ·Picking Can Pere Antoni for a short call. It is on the far side of the city from your ship. Cala Major is the safer swim.
- ·Handing the bus driver a €20 or €50 note. Drivers give limited change. Use a contactless card or carry coins and small notes.
- ·Going to the cathedral in beachwear. Cover shoulders and knees, and carry a light layer.
- ·Waiting for the last shuttle back. Shuttle and taxi queues peak an hour before sailing.
- ·Using an unofficial taxi. Use the official rank and metered white taxis only.
