Cruise Port Guide
Quick answerShips berth at Porto Corsini, about 12–15 km and a 20-minute drive from Ravenna's centre, so you cannot walk. Take the ship's shuttle to Ravenna railway station if one is sold, or Start Romagna bus 90 from the 'Porto Corsini Traghetto' stop; taxis are few and waits of up to two hours have been reported. Leave the centre 2 hours before all-aboard and be on board 90 minutes before it.

Open my full Ravenna day, timed to 17:30 Get this for every port on your cruise, with alerts on the day Write about Ravenna? Put these leave-by times on your blog, freeRavenna is mainly a turnaround port: in 2026 the terminal expected 111 calls, of which only 40 were transit calls. That matters on a port day, because the area has very few taxis and most transport is set up for luggage transfers rather than day visitors. The reward for sorting out transport is Ravenna's group of UNESCO-listed early Christian mosaics, five of which sit on one ticket within walking distance of each other in the compact centre. Plan the day around the shuttle or bus times, book timed entry for Galla Placidia, and keep a wide margin for the trip back to Porto Corsini.
Walkable? No (12 km)
The centre is 12–15 km away by road. Once in Ravenna, the railway station is about 7 minutes' walk from the centre and the mosaic sites are close together on flat streets.
Where your ship docks
Cruise line shuttle to Ravenna railway station
Set by your line; Norwegian charged US$23 per person in August 2026About 20 min by road
Some lines sell a shuttle or transfer from the ship to Ravenna railway station, booked through the cruise planner or on board. Check the last return departure before you leave the ship.
Start Romagna bus 90
Start Romagna fare; check the current price before travellingCheck the timetable
Line 90 runs between Ravenna FS (railway station) and Casalborsetti via Porto Corsini. Use the stop called 'Porto Corsini Traghetto' on Via Molo San Filippo, about 10 minutes' walk from the berth; port fencing may force you along a marked walking route. Download the current timetable from startromagna.it before the day, because buses are not frequent.
Taxi
About €50 to the railway station, per Norwegian Cruise Line (2026)About 20 min
Ravenna has very few taxis. Norwegian reported guests waiting up to two hours for one at Porto Corsini. Do not plan your return on finding a taxi; if you must use one, book it in advance for a fixed time.
Porto Corsini–Marina di Ravenna ferry
€1 per foot passenger or cyclist (2026)Short canal crossing
Start Romagna's ferry crosses the canal mouth daily from early morning to after midnight. It takes you to Marina di Ravenna, not to Ravenna city. If the ferry is stopped by bad weather, foot passengers are moved by bus by road at no extra charge.
Know your all-aboard time? Build the whole day around it.
Leave central Ravenna 2 hours before all-aboard and be back on board 90 minutes before it.
The return depends on a 12–15 km road trip with limited transport: a shuttle with set times, an infrequent bus, or scarce taxis. If you miss the last shuttle you may not find a taxi quickly. Know your last shuttle time and the next two bus 90 departures from Ravenna FS before you leave the ship.
If you're running late
If the shuttle has gone, take bus 90 from Ravenna FS towards Casalborsetti and get off at Porto Corsini Traghetto. Ask a hotel near the station to call a taxi for you. If you will miss all-aboard, call the port agent number on your daily programme straight away.

Ravenna is a port where the ship's tour is often worth considering. The terminal is far from the centre, taxis are scarce and the bus is infrequent, so a tour removes the main risk of the day. Go independently if your line sells a shuttle to the railway station and you book mosaic entry times yourself; the sites are close together and easy to visit alone. Bologna and San Marino are long trips that only make sense as ship tours on a long call.
Expecting to find a taxi at the terminal or in town for the return.
Instead: Ravenna has very few taxis and waits of up to two hours have been reported. Use the shuttle or bus 90, or pre-book a taxi for a fixed time.
Assuming Ravenna's cruise port is in the city.
Instead: It is at Porto Corsini, 12–15 km away. Arrange transport before you leave the ship.
Turning up at Galla Placidia without a booked slot.
Instead: Timed entry is mandatory for Galla Placidia and the Neonian Baptistery with the 4- and 5-monument tickets. Book online before the day.
Taking the ferry and expecting to reach Ravenna.
Instead: The Porto Corsini ferry only crosses the canal to Marina di Ravenna. For the city use bus 90 or the shuttle.
Planning a late lunch.
Instead: Many restaurants close from about 15:00 to 18:30. Eat between 12:30 and 14:00.
Ravenna is a calm, safe city for visitors. The real risk on a cruise day is transport: the terminal is far from town and taxis are scarce, so missing the last shuttle is the main danger. Dress modestly for the churches by covering shoulders and knees. Use normal care with bags in busy places.
Scams and tourist traps
Emergency number: 112
Crowds
Ravenna's monuments are small, and timed entry at Galla Placidia and the Neonian Baptistery keeps numbers down, but popular slots fill. Book entry times online before the cruise. Go to Sant'Apollinare Nuovo first at opening, then work towards San Vitale. Turnaround days fill the shuttles and taxis with luggage traffic.
Accessibility
The transfer to and from Porto Corsini is the main barrier; confirm an accessible shuttle or transfer with your cruise line in advance. Central Ravenna is flat and the mosaic sites are close together. Some monuments have steps or tight spaces; contact the Ravenna Mosaici booking office (0544 541688, weekdays 09:00–16:00) before the day to ask about access.
If it rains
Ravenna works well in rain because the main sights are all indoors: the five monuments on the combined ticket, the Domus dei Tappeti di Pietra and the Arian Baptistery. Keep the walks between them short and book Galla Placidia's slot in advance.

Your whole cruise, planned like this
The day plan above assumes a 17:30 all-aboard. Your ship's times will differ, and so will every other stop. Pro builds the plan from your ship's real times: a timed day in Ravenna and every other port, a leave-by time for each stop, and a Plan B if you run late. Ultimate adds a live leave-by countdown from where you are on the day. Every plan uses the same checked facts as this guide. Nothing is made up.
