Corfu guide

Quick answer: Corfu Town has no sandy beach, but you can swim 10 minutes' walk from the Spianada at Faliraki, or 30 minutes south at the small pebble beach of Mon Repos, both free. For a proper beach day, blue city bus 7 reaches Dassia in about 35 minutes from San Rocco Square, for a city-bus fare of under €2 (2026). Paleokastritsa on the west coast is about 50 minutes by green KTEL bus A9 (€2.80 each way, 2026) and only works on a long call. For a 17:30 all-aboard, leave Faliraki by 15:35, Mon Repos by 15:15 and Dassia by 14:40.

Beaches Near Corfu Cruise Port: Town Swims to Paleokastritsa

Where the ships dock

Corfu is a docking port. Ships berth at the New Port (Neo Limani), north-west of the Old Town, and a free internal shuttle takes you from the ship to the passenger terminal. Some berths are a 5–10 minute walk from the terminal instead.

The Old Town is 2.5 km away. You can walk it in 30–40 minutes along the flat seafront road, sea on your left, with little shade. City bus 16 runs from the port to Spilia at the edge of the Old Town in about 10 minutes, and line 17 runs to the upper Spianada. City fares are €1.10 prepaid, €1.70 on board, or €5 for a day ticket (2026). A taxi to town is about €10 (2026). The green KTEL intercity station is on Eptanisou Avenue, near the New Port.

There is no beach at the port. Every option below starts from the Old Town or one of its bus stops.

Faliraki

Getting there: walk from the Spianada down to the waterfront below the Palace of St Michael and St George. Time: 10 minutes on foot from the Spianada. Cost: not checked. Entry to the platform and café prices are not listed in our sources. Leave by (17:30 all-aboard): 15:35. 17:30 − 60 min on board early − 45 min Old Town to ship − 10 min walk = 15:35.

Faliraki is a swimming platform and café rather than a beach, with ladders into deep water and a view of the Old Fortress. There is no sand. It suits confident swimmers who want a dip between the fortress and lunch, and it is the lowest-risk swim on the island because you are still in town.

Mon Repos beach

Getting there: walk south from the Spianada along the seafront. City bus 2a from the Liston towards Kanoni also serves the Mon Repos area. Time: about 30 minutes on foot from the Spianada. Cost: free. Leave by (17:30 all-aboard): 15:15. 17:30 − 60 − 45 Old Town to ship − 30 walk = 15:15.

The closest proper beach to the Old Town: a small pebble beach next to the wooded Mon Repos estate. It is small, so it suits a couple or a small group more than a family looking for space. Bring water and shoes you can swim in. The walk back is flat but in full sun in the afternoon.

Benitses

Getting there: blue city bus 6 from Mitropolitou Methodiou Street, via the KTEL station, south along the coast to Benitses. It is the last stop. Time: about 30 minutes. Buses run roughly every half hour, less often on Sundays and holidays. Cost: about €1.70–1.80 one way, more from the driver; €5 day ticket (2026). Leave by (17:30 all-aboard): 14:45. 17:30 − 60 − 45 Old Town to ship − 30 bus − 30 wait = 14:45.

Benitses is a fishing-village resort on the east coast. The beach is fine gravelly pebble with some sandy seabed. The northern half is narrow with the road alongside; the southern half is wider and has tree shade. Only a few sections have sunbeds, and no price was checked. Cafés, tavernas, a small supermarket and an ATM are close by. Getting down to the beach usually involves a few steps.

Dassia

Getting there: blue city bus 7 from San Rocco Square, north towards Dassia and Ipsos. The beach is about 200 m from the main road. Time: about 35 minutes. Buses run roughly every half hour, less often on Sundays and holidays. Cost: about €1.50–1.80 one way, more from the driver; €5 day ticket (2026). Sunbeds extra, price not checked. Leave by (17:30 all-aboard): 14:40. 17:30 − 60 − 45 Old Town to ship − 35 bus − 30 wait = 14:40.

Dassia is a long beach about 12 km north of town, sand mixed with fine pebble, with shallow water. The southern end has coarser sand and shingle; the north is narrower and more pebbly. Sunbeds, beach bars, a diving centre and water sports are all here, and there is Seatrac access for wheelchair users. It is the best-equipped beach you can reach on a city-bus fare, and the easiest with children.

Paleokastritsa

Getting there: green KTEL bus A9 from the intercity station on Eptanisou Avenue, near the New Port. Time: about 50 minutes each way. Cost: €2.80 each way (2026). Leave by (17:30 all-aboard): 14:10. 17:30 − 60 − 45 Old Town to ship − 45 margin for a cancelled bus − 50 bus = 14:10.

A set of coves on the west coast with clear water and a monastery on the headland. It is the best-looking swim on this list and the riskiest. KTEL timetables changed on 10 October 2026 and some departures are cancelled at short notice, so check ktelkerkyras.gr on the day and know the return departure before you go. The guide's rule is to be back in Corfu Town by 15:00. Only consider it on a call of 9 hours or more.

"Town" means the port shuttle to the terminal, then bus 16 (about 10 minutes, plus up to 15 minutes' wait) or the 30–40 minute walk. Buses 6 and 7 run about every half hour, so allow up to 30 minutes' wait on top. The walk from the terminal to the KTEL station is not timed in our sources.

Which beach for which day

  • Short call (under 7 hours): Faliraki. You stay in town and can swim after the Old Fortress.
  • Families: Dassia. Shallow water, sunbeds, facilities and step-free access.
  • Best swimming: Paleokastritsa on a long call; Faliraki for deep water from a platform.
  • Quiet: Mon Repos, small and away from the main beach resorts.
  • Combine with sightseeing: Mon Repos after the Old Fortress and the Spianada, or Benitses with a taverna lunch.

When to head back

The guide's rule is to leave the Old Town by 15:45 for a 17:30 all-aboard, so you are on board by 16:30. The bus to the port takes about 10 minutes, but you may wait 15 minutes for one, a taxi can take 15 minutes in traffic, and you still need the port shuttle to your berth. On foot, allow 40 minutes from the Spianada. Every leave-by time above works back from that 15:45.

What goes wrong: people assume the west-coast buses run as timetabled. Green KTEL departures can be cancelled at short notice. If you are late, take a taxi from the rank at the Spianada or San Rocco Square, about €10 and 10–15 minutes to the port (2026). If you will miss all-aboard, call the port agent number in your daily programme.
