Beaches Near Mykonos Cruise Port: Ornos, Agios Stefanos and More

Mykonos guide

Quick answer: If your ship docks at Tourlos, Agios Stefanos is the closest sandy beach, a 15–20 minute walk north with no bus needed. For a sheltered bay, take the KTEL bus from Fabrika station to Ornos: 5 minutes, about every 30 minutes, €1.50–2.50 (2026). For a 17:30 all-aboard, leave Agios Stefanos by 16:10 on foot, or leave Ornos by 15:10. Taxis are scarce, so plan the return around the bus.

Beaches Near Mykonos Cruise Port: Ornos, Agios Stefanos and More

Where the ships dock

Mykonos is both a docking and a tender port, decided per call by the port authority. Your daily programme says which.

  • New Port (Tourlos) cruise berths: about 2.8 km north of Mykonos Town, shared with ferries. The Sea Bus to the Old Port leaves a few minutes' walk from the berth, about every 30 minutes, in 10–12 minutes, for €2–2.50 (2026). KTEL buses and any cruise shuttles leave from the port area.
  • Old Port tender pier: on the northern edge of town. Tenders land here, and so does the Sea Bus. On days with several ships, morning tender waits run 20–45 minutes.

Most south-coast beach buses leave from Fabrika station on the south side of town. From the Old Port, everything in town is within 10–15 minutes on foot. From Tourlos, KTEL buses run to Fabrika every 30–60 minutes in about 10 minutes. Do not walk from Tourlos to town on the main road: it is 30–40 minutes with no pavement in places.

KTEL tickets are sold at the station kiosks or by the driver, cash only. There are no day passes, and timetables change every year.

Agios Stefanos

Getting there: walk 15–20 minutes north from Tourlos, or the KTEL bus from the Old Port station. Time: 15–20 minutes on foot from the New Port; about 5 minutes by bus from the Old Port, roughly hourly. Cost: free on foot; bus €1.50–2.50 (2026). Leave by (17:30 all-aboard): 16:10 if your ship is at Tourlos. 17:30 − 60 min on board early − 20 min walk = 16:10. If you tendered: 14:55. 16:00 at the tender pier − 5 min bus − up to 60 min wait = 14:55.

The closest sandy beach to the New Port, with sunbeds and tavernas. It is the obvious choice when you are docked: no bus and no timetable. On a tender day it makes less sense, because you depend on an hourly bus to get back to the Old Port.

Ornos

Getting there: KTEL bus from Fabrika station. Time: about 5 minutes, buses about every 30 minutes. Cost: €1.50–2.50 (2026). Leave by (17:30 all-aboard): 15:10. 17:30 − 90 min (the Old Port rule) − 15 min walk from Fabrika to the Old Port = back at Fabrika by 15:45; then − 5 min bus − 30 min wait = 15:10.

A sheltered sandy bay on the south coast, rated good in north winds. The strong meltemi winds of July and August can make exposed beaches rough, so Ornos is the safe default in high summer. It is also where the south-coast water taxi starts its run east. Sunbed prices here were not checked.

Agios Ioannis

Getting there: KTEL bus from Fabrika; the Agios Ioannis buses run through Ornos. Time: about 10 minutes. Cost: €1.50–2.50 (2026). Leave by (17:30 all-aboard): 15:05. Back at Fabrika by 15:45 − 10 min bus − 30 min wait = 15:05.

A bay on the same bus route, beyond Ornos. Facilities and sunbed prices were not checked. If you want a quieter version of Ornos and the bus times fit, it is a short extra ride; otherwise stay at Ornos.

Platis Gialos

Getting there: KTEL bus from Fabrika station. Time: about 10 minutes, buses roughly hourly. Cost: €1.50–2.50 (2026). Leave by (17:30 all-aboard): 14:35. Back at Fabrika by 15:45 − 10 min bus − 60 min wait = 14:35. If you note an exact bus time that reaches Fabrika by 15:45, use that.

A family beach with sunbeds, on the south coast. It is the second stop of the water taxi that runs from Ornos east to Paraga, Paradise, Super Paradise, Agrari and Elia. A day pass is €20 with unlimited rides; the first boat leaves Ornos at 10:00 and the last leaves Elia at 17:45 (2026 timetable reported by Santorini Dave). Journey times per leg are not published, and strong wind can stop the boats, so use the water taxi to get there, not to get back.

Paradise

Getting there: KTEL bus from Fabrika station. Time: about 15 minutes, buses every 30–60 minutes. Cost: €1.50–2.50 (2026). Leave by (17:30 all-aboard): 14:30. Back at Fabrika by 15:45 − 15 min bus − 60 min wait = 14:30.

Known for beach bars and music. It suits a group that wants a party beach rather than a quiet swim. The bus runs late into the night, but the afternoon return is what counts on a cruise day.

Elia

Getting there: KTEL bus from the Old Port station. Time: about 20 minutes, but only every 2–3 hours, between about 10:00 and 19:00. Cost: €1.50–2.50 (2026). Leave by (17:30 all-aboard): the last posted departure at or before 15:40. 16:00 at the Old Port − 20 min bus = 15:40. With buses 2–3 hours apart, that may mean a bus soon after lunch.

Elia is the furthest beach on this list by bus time. The bus gap makes it a poor bet on a normal port day. Only consider it on a long call, with the return bus time written down before you leave town.

Beaches compared

Beach How Time from ship Cost (2026) Leave by (17:30) Best for
Agios Stefanos Walk from Tourlos; bus from Old Port 15–20 min walk (docked) Free on foot; bus €1.50–2.50 16:10 docked; 14:55 tendered Docked ships, short calls
Ornos KTEL from Fabrika 5 min bus + town transfer €1.50–2.50 15:10 Meltemi days, families
Agios Ioannis KTEL from Fabrika 10 min bus + town transfer €1.50–2.50 15:05 A quieter Ornos
Platis Gialos KTEL from Fabrika 10 min bus + town transfer €1.50–2.50; water taxi €20 day pass 14:35 Families, water taxi start
Paradise KTEL from Fabrika 15 min bus + town transfer €1.50–2.50 14:30 Beach bars
Elia KTEL from Old Port 20 min bus, every 2–3 h €1.50–2.50 Bus at or before 15:40 Long calls only

"Town transfer" means the Sea Bus (10–12 min) and a 10–15 minute walk, or the KTEL bus from Tourlos to Fabrika (about 10 min). On a tender day it is the 10–15 minute walk from the pier.

Which beach for which day

  • Short call, ship at Tourlos: Agios Stefanos. Walk there and back, no timetable.
  • Families: Ornos for the sheltered water and frequent buses, or Platis Gialos.
  • Windy day (meltemi): Ornos. It is the sheltered bay, and the Sea Bus may stop, so leave extra time to get back.
  • Beach bars: Paradise, with an early start and the 14:30 leave time in mind.
  • Combine with town: Little Venice and the windmills in the morning, then Ornos from Fabrika after lunch. Delos plus a beach only works as a short swim at Ornos.

When to head back

The guide's rule is to be at the Old Port Sea Bus pier, or the tender pier, by 16:00 for a 17:30 all-aboard. The Sea Bus runs about every 30 minutes and takes 10–12 minutes, so 16:00 allows for a full boat and one missed departure. On a tender day the last tender usually leaves 30 minutes before all-aboard and the afternoon queue can take 30 minutes or more; the 16:00 rule covers that queue. If you are docked and walking from Agios Stefanos, be on board 60 minutes before all-aboard.

What goes wrong is the taxi. Mykonos has only a few dozen taxis, and the queue is long when ships and ferries arrive together. Do not plan to take one back. If the Sea Bus is full or stopped by wind, take the KTEL bus from the Old Port station to the New Port (about 20 minutes). Call the port agent number on your daily programme if you will be late.

FAQ

Is there a beach near Mykonos cruise port?

Yes. Agios Stefanos is 15–20 minutes' walk north of the New Port in Tourlos. Ornos, Platis Gialos and Paradise are 5–15 minutes by KTEL bus from Fabrika station in town.

Can I walk to the beach from Mykonos cruise port?

From Tourlos, yes: Agios Stefanos is 15–20 minutes on foot. From town, Megali Ammos lies about 500 m south of Chora, but the road has no proper pavement in places and the beach is exposed to the meltemi. Its walking time was not checked.

Is Mykonos a tender port?

Sometimes. Some ships dock at Tourlos, others anchor and tender to the Old Port. Your daily programme says which. On a tender day, the south-coast beaches via Fabrika are easier than Agios Stefanos.

Are there sunbeds and how much?

Agios Stefanos and Platis Gialos have sunbeds. Prices were not checked for 2026, and they vary by beach club, so ask before you sit down.

How do I pay for the beach bus?

Buy a single ticket at the Fabrika or Old Port station kiosk, or pay the driver in cash. Fares are €1.50–2.50 by route (2026). There are no day passes.

Can I do Delos and a beach on the same day?

Only just. On the guide's plan you are back from Delos on the 12:00 boat at about 12:45. Walk to Fabrika, wait for a bus and you reach Ornos by about 13:35, with a 15:10 leave time. That is about 90 minutes on the beach and no lunch in town.
