Arrecife cruise port guide
Ships berth alongside at Arrecife; larger ships use the Los Mármoles cruise terminal in the commercial port, a 30–40 minute exposed walk from the centre, so take the shuttle (about 12 minutes to Charco de San Ginés) or a taxi. Timanfaya and Cueva de los Verdes must be booked online for a set time. Be back at the ship 60 minutes before all-aboard from Arrecife, and leave the island's sights at least 2.5 hours before.
Lanzarote's attraction is its volcanic landscape and César Manrique's work, both spread across the island, while Arrecife itself is a small working capital with a lagoon, two castles and a town beach. Since 2024–2025 the port has two new cruise terminals: Los Mármoles, which can take three ships at once, and Naos, closer to the marina. Where your ship berths decides whether you walk or ride into town, so check your daily programme. For Timanfaya, Jameos del Agua or Cueva de los Verdes, book ahead or take a ship tour.
When to head back to the ship
For a 17:30 all-aboard. Times count back from all-aboard using the travel times and buffers in this guide. Your ship's daily programme always wins. Re-time this to your own all-aboard.

Where people get Arrecife wrong: Booking a late Timanfaya or Cueva de los Verdes slot and running out of time to get back to Los Mármoles.
Docking and getting to town
- Los Mármoles Cruise Terminal (Muelle de Los Mármoles), 3.5 km to the centre. Opened October 2024 and inaugurated by the Port Authority of Las Palmas and Global Ports Canary Islands in May 2025. Can serve three ships at once, with a satellite building for passenger services. In the commercial port; the walk to the centre is 30–40 minutes along busy, unshaded roads. Cruise guides put it at about 3–4 km. Shuttle or taxi recommended.
- Naos Cruise Terminal (Puerto de Naos), 1.2 km to the centre. Inaugurated May 2025; 1,106 m² single-storey building beside Marina Lanzarote. The operator gives the city centre as 1.2 km, walkable along the Paseo de Puerto de Naos.
Walkable? Partly, about 35 min. From Los Mármoles the walk takes 30–40 minutes past busy roads and roundabouts with little shade; most people take the shuttle. From the Naos terminal, the centre is about 1.2 km along the waterfront. Once in town, the Charco, the castles, the shopping streets and El Reducto beach are all walkable.
Transport
- Cruise shuttle bus: Varies by cruise line; sometimes free; About 12 min to Charco de San Ginés. Drops near Charco de San Ginés. Check the price and the last return time in your daily programme.
- On foot: Free; 30–40 min from Los Mármoles; about 1.2 km from Naos. Only worthwhile from the Naos terminal. From Los Mármoles the route follows port roads with little shade.
- Taxi: Fare not verified; Short ride to the centre; island sights mostly 30–45 min by car. Taxis wait at the terminals. For island trips agree the route, waiting time and price before you set off.
- Intercity bus (guaguas): Fare not verified; Varies. Buses link Arrecife with Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise; Cruise Critic reports a bus about every 20 minutes from the centre to Puerto del Carmen. The nearest stop to Los Mármoles is reported as Lloret, about 300 m away. Check the operator's current timetable.
Return timing
Be back at the ship 60 minutes before all-aboard. Catch a shuttle that leaves Arrecife at least 75 minutes before all-aboard, and leave Timanfaya, Jameos del Agua or Cueva de los Verdes at least 2.5 hours before. Shuttles fill at the end of the day and the road out to Los Mármoles passes busy roundabouts. Island sights are 30–45 minutes away by car and Timanfaya entry is by timed slot, so a late slot can trap you.
If you are running late: Take a taxi from the centre or flag one down. If you will miss all-aboard, phone the port agent number on your daily programme straight away.

Common mistakes
- Walking from Los Mármoles into town. It takes 30–40 minutes on busy, shadeless roads. Take the shuttle or a taxi and save your energy for the town.
- Turning up at Timanfaya or Cueva de los Verdes without a ticket. Both are sold online only for a set time. Book before you sail, and choose a slot that leaves 2.5 hours before all-aboard.
- Trying to see Timanfaya, the north and Arrecife in one call. Pick one area: Timanfaya and La Geria, or Jameos, Cueva de los Verdes and Mirador del Río.
- Planning the history museum on a Sunday. Castillo de San Gabriel is closed on Sundays; MIAC opens daily from 11:00.
- Assuming every ship berths in the same place. Ships use Los Mármoles or the Naos terminal. Check your daily programme for the berth and shuttle stop.
Safety and scams
Arrecife is a calm small city and generally safe; take normal care with bags in busy bars around the Charco. The real hazards are sun and wind: carry water and sun protection, especially on the walk from Los Mármoles or at Timanfaya. If you drive, island roads are good but roundabouts around Arrecife are busy, and parking at the main sights fills on ship days.
Accessibility
The waterfront around the Charco and the promenade to El Reducto are largely flat. The walk from Los Mármoles is long and alongside traffic; use the shuttle and ask your cruise line whether it is accessible. Ask CACT (+34 928 84 84 84) about access at Timanfaya and the lava-tube sites before booking.
If it rains
Rain is uncommon. If it rains, visit MIAC at Castillo de San José, the history museum in Castillo de San Gabriel (not on Sundays) and the shops on Calle León y Castillo, and keep Jameos del Agua or Cueva de los Verdes as a covered island option if you have tickets.
Crowds
Arrecife handles more than 250 cruise calls a year and Los Mármoles can take three ships at once, and Timanfaya and Cueva de los Verdes are sold by timed slot. Book the earliest slots that fit your shuttle times. In town, the Charco is quieter first thing; El Reducto fills from late morning.
Questions cruise passengers ask
Is Lanzarote a tender port?
No. Ships berth alongside at Arrecife, at Los Mármoles or the Naos terminal.
Is Arrecife walkable from the cruise port?
From the Naos terminal, yes (about 1.2 km). From Los Mármoles it is a 30–40 minute walk on busy roads, so most people take the shuttle.
How do I get from Lanzarote cruise port to Arrecife town?
Take your ship's shuttle to Charco de San Ginés (about 12 minutes) or a taxi from the terminal.
How much is Timanfaya National Park?
€30 for Montañas del Fuego in 2026, bought online only for a set date and time. Open 09:00–15:45.
Can I visit Timanfaya on my own from the cruise ship?
Yes, with a pre-booked slot and a taxi or hire car; it is about 30–45 minutes' drive. Leave 2.5 hours before all-aboard. A ship tour is simpler.

Either an island trip (Timanfaya, or Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes), or Arrecife: the Charco, Castillo de San Gabriel, MIAC and El Reducto beach.

Playa del Reducto in Arrecife, a walk along the promenade from the centre. Puerto del Carmen's beaches are a bus or taxi ride away.
