Ibiza cruise port guide
Most cruise ships berth at the Botafoc breakwater, about 3 km across the harbour from Ibiza Town; some smaller ships tie up in the town harbour below the old walls. From Botafoc, take the PortBus shuttle, the City Boat water taxi or a 10–15 minute taxi, or walk 35–40 minutes round the bay. Be back at the shuttle or boat stop in town 90 minutes before all-aboard if you are in Dalt Vila.
Ibiza Town is two places for a cruise passenger: La Marina, the flat harbour district, and Dalt Vila, the walled upper town above it, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. Large ships berth at Botafoc on the far side of the bay, so the day starts with a short transfer. Dalt Vila is steep and cobbled, and the climb takes longer than the map suggests. Plan the walls and cathedral for the cooler morning, and keep the afternoon for La Marina or a beach.
When to head back to the ship
For a 17:30 all-aboard. Times count back from all-aboard using the travel times and buffers in this guide. Your ship's daily programme always wins. Re-time this to your own all-aboard.

| Dalt Vila (ship in town harbour) | 16:10 (1 h 20 min before all-aboard) | Walk down, 15–20 min |
| Platja d'en Bossa (ship at Botafoc) | 15:30 (2 h before all-aboard) | Hourly City Boat to town, then shuttle; or taxi |
| Ses Salines (ship at Botafoc) | 15:00 (2 h 30 min before all-aboard) | Bus P3 to CETIS, then taxi to Botafoc |
Where people get Ibiza wrong: Passengers expect to dock under Dalt Vila and underestimate the 3 km transfer from Botafoc plus the climb down from the cathedral.
Docking and getting to town
Tendering is uncommon but can happen when the port is busy. Ships normally berth.
- Botafoc breakwater (Dique del Botafoc / Muelle Ribera Botafoc), 3 km to the centre. Main berth for large and medium ships, across the harbour from the old town. The port authority map shows a provisional maritime station here, with a tourist information point. Taxis, shuttle buses and the City Boat stop at Marina Botafoc serve it.
- Town harbour (Muelle de Levante area), 0.3 km to the centre. Used by some smaller ships, near the base of the old town walls. Passengers step ashore in La Marina and can walk to Dalt Vila in 5–10 minutes.
Walkable? Partly, about 40 min. From Botafoc the walk round the bay to Ibiza Town takes about 35–40 minutes on the harbour road, with little shade. Add 15–20 minutes and a steep climb to reach the cathedral at the top of Dalt Vila. Ships berthed in the town harbour are a 5–10 minute walk from the gates.
Transport
- PortBus shuttle: Fare not confirmed; pay the driver; About 10–15 min. Runs between Botafoc and Ibiza Town during cruise calls, setting down near the marina below the old town. Many cruise lines also run their own shuttle to the same area; check your daily programme.
- City Boat water taxi: Fare not confirmed; tickets at the booth or on board; A few minutes' crossing. City Boat Ibiza links Ibiza Town (wooden ticket cabin at the port) with Marina Botafoc, with a stop for Talamanca beach, roughly every 30 minutes. Timetables change through the season.
- Taxi: Metered; fare not confirmed; 10–15 min. Taxis wait outside the Botafoc terminal. Vehicles cannot enter Dalt Vila; drivers set down at Portal de ses Taules or near the Hotel Mirador at the top.
- On foot: Free; 35–40 min to Ibiza Town. Follow the harbour road round the bay. Fine on a cool morning; tiring in July and August.
- Alsa island bus: €1.70 by card or QR, €2.40 cash for an urban trip; €3.35 card / €4.70 cash to Ses Salines on line P3 (2026); Varies. Alsa runs the island network from 2026. The main bus station, CETIS, is on the edge of town, about 15 minutes' walk from the harbour. Paying by card or in advance is cheaper than cash.
Return timing
With the ship at Botafoc, be at the shuttle or City Boat stop in Ibiza Town 75 minutes before all-aboard, and leave Dalt Vila 90 minutes before. If you walk back round the bay, leave town 105 minutes before. Everyone heads back at the same time, so shuttle and boat queues grow in the last two hours. The climb down from the cathedral through the lanes takes 15–20 minutes. If your ship is in the town harbour, 60 minutes on board before all-aboard is enough.
If you are running late: Take a taxi from the rank in La Marina to Botafoc (10–15 minutes). If you will miss all-aboard, call the port agent number on your daily programme at once.

Beaches

- Figueretes: Walk south from the town centre Southern edge of town Town beach and seafront promenade.
- Platja d'en Bossa: City Boat from Ibiza Town (about hourly) or taxi About 15 minutes by road Ibiza's longest beach and the centre of the beach club scene; 3 km south of town.

Common mistakes
- Assuming the ship docks in town. Large ships berth at Botafoc, 3 km away. Plan the shuttle or boat both ways.
- Climbing Dalt Vila at midday in July or August. Go up first thing and do La Marina or a beach in the afternoon.
- Paying cash on the bus. Card or QR fares are cheaper: €1.70 instead of €2.40 in town (2026).
- Planning to see the archaeological museum in Dalt Vila. It is closed for works; go to Puig des Molins instead.
- Doing Formentera on your own on a short call. A delayed return ferry means a missed ship. Use the ship's tour or stay on Ibiza.
Safety and scams
Ibiza Town is safe by day for cruise visitors. The UK government warns that thieves in Spain use distraction techniques and often work in teams, so keep bags closed in crowded lanes and on the shuttle. The Dalt Vila lanes are steep, cobbled and slippery; wear shoes with grip. At beaches, a red flag means you must not enter the water, and some spots have strong undercurrents. San Antonio, not Ibiza Town, has the strict alcohol rules for party areas.
- Distraction theft: thieves work in teams and distract you while one takes a wallet or phone. Keep valuables split up and bags closed.
- Fake police: people posing as plain-clothes officers ask to see your wallet. Real police may ask for ID but never for your wallet or purse.
- Timeshare and holiday club offers: the UK government warns some are fraudulent and use false incentives. Do not sign anything on the street.
Accessibility
La Marina and the harbour front are flat. Dalt Vila is steep and cobbled, with steps near the cathedral square, and vehicles cannot enter the walls; there is no practical step-free route to the cathedral. A tunnel next to the Hotel Mirador gives access near the top, and taxis can set down there, so some visitors ride up and walk down. Portal Nou is less steep than Portal de ses Taules. Ask your ship whether its shuttle is accessible.
If it rains
Use the free municipal museums: the MACE, Museu Puget and Casa Broner, which share opening hours and close on Mondays. Puig des Molins has an indoor museum as well as the necropolis. Take care on the wet stone lanes in Dalt Vila.
Crowds
Shuttle and boat queues are longest just after the ship opens its gangway and in the last two hours of the call; wait 20 minutes in the morning or come back early. July and August are the busiest and hottest months; April–May and September–October are calmer.
